Hmm...

OK, so it's another "FFVI continuation" thingy. Well, first thing, I absolutely LOATHE Kefka as a villain. He's almost as bad as Seymour in my opinion, and Seymour was a poor villain at best. I'd strongly recommend having a new villain instead of Kefka. Also, it jumps around quite a bit in terms of story. It's better to focus on a few characters rather than trying to fit everyone in.

Second, music-wise, they were clear and all, but I'd really recommend using music from other RPGs. If you go to Blue Laguna's site and look in the mp3 section at the Star Ocean 3, Chrono Cross, Shadow Hearts and Suikoden sections you'll find some good music that should fit the scene pretty well. People may complain about it "not being pure" or some such crap, but in the long run it'll help you stand out.

Anyway, onto what I liked. Animation-wise, it was pretty good. No lag, the walking clips were nicely done and the textboxes were good. The camera angles were great too, I'd keep putting those to use. I also liked the fight with Shadow and the soldiers. Turn-based just doesn't really work unless you're mocking it in an animation in my opinion. I'd recommend using a radial gradient for the blood instead of solid bright red (Window > Colour Mixer and you'll see the option). For "advance the text" buttons (I noticed you mentioned you wanted to learn these) you just need to make the textbox into a button, put a stop command in on the keyframe with the text and then a "root play" command on the box/button itself (click on it, then put the command in). Some people like to go at their own pace I guess but waiting around doesn't bother me so much.

Anyway, sorry if I came across a bit harsh, and I hope I've helped out a bit. You have potential, so keep at it.

MasaAndMune responds:

as far as music wise, i will be using diff music from other games for episode 2, so dont worry, and as far as it this review being harsh, it wasnt at all, its just what its suppose to be constructive criticism, anyways, thx for the review

Immortal...

... been ages since I heard that. I should try and find MK: DA for cheap or something I suppose... gah, off-topic.

The opening fight was good. I wish I had the patience/skill to manipulate FF sprites and come out with a good fight (I'm "decent" with Megaman sprites but that's about it). The twist regarding SM surprised me, but it was hinting at it in the previous episode if I remember. The spriting itself has improved, too. I noticed that you used more than the two frames you did before when they walked. And at long last we get to see what the prize for winning is. But what of the DragonFballs?

One minor thing: I'm sure I've seen the Tetris thing before somewhere in another movie.

My vote for this episode: Terra. Was gonna go for Crono, but I want to see what happens now that he and Shadow are now enemies. Keep up the good work.

PS: Blue Laguna's site now has Suikoden I, II and III music in the MP3 section. Sounds a bit glitchy when you listen to it online but if you save it to your HD and play it it sounds fine. Might be something to consider.

Hell-Fire responds:

Terra

Yeah you have to love Adema. Practise makes perfect. Keep at it and you will get there. Yes there was some hints at slapdown. The dragonF balls shall return next episode. I had no idea it was used in another movie. Yeah I have seen them. I love suikoden music. Thanks a lot.

I'm speechless...

Congrats on discouraging me from continuing on my own sprite flash with this. =P Well, not really, but this was extremely good. Camera angles were used excellently (is that a word?), voices were nice and clear and the action was great. Maybe a bit more music could have been used, but besides that brilliant work.

In my favourites this goes. (and hurry up with Megaman Real Adventure 2! =P If it's even half as good as this then I'll be 5-ing it)

Good as always

So now Frog has entered the scene. The fight scene wasn't bad, and the interactivity adds to your own style. The character development regarding Lucca was... umm... interesting and the extra scene was decent.

All I can suggest is to try and make a preloader for the future ones. There's a few tutorials on NG that might help out (search "Preloader"). Keep at it.

Cryokenetic responds:

You know the pendant? At the beginning?

That IS the preloader.

Heh...

Wonder how many actually fell for the Numagrounds thing anyway? Bit of an overdone thing, but this was pretty good. The lip-syncing was near-perfect. Sprite movements got a bit repetitive though, but considering it's a music video that shouldn't matter too much. I noticed that the Wario sprite still had some white background on from the Trace Bitmap, but it's a detailed sprite so it'd be more difficult to get all the white for that one.

Not bad overall.

RupeeClock responds:

I think that white background is actually his glove, i'm not sure.

Thanks. :)

Nice work

Seen the first one and enjoyed it. This one was just as good, if not better. There are a few things needed to make this perfect.

Sound. Bit of music or a few sound effects for an ambient effect in the background perhaps. Also, the voices need to be much clearer. I'd suggest trying to fix them up in a sound editing program.

Timing. While it did make me laugh, there were still a fair few pauses that didn't serve much purpose. There was a similar problem to this in the first one. I wouldn't do away with the pauses completely, just shorten them down a bit.

Overall good work and nice to see more humour-based VG parodies.

How is it stolen?

The images were off other sites maybe but it's not stolen... ass.

Anyway, it's been a good run. I was miffed at the supposed "ending" but then the *insert spoiler here* made me laugh. Been a fan of the Mr T stuff for a while now, so it's a pity to see it end. Oh well, better that than to have it get repetitive I suppose. Good stuff.

Sweet as!

Now that was good. The graphics, while a bit dark (and I do have my screen's brightness at maximum) were very nice. I like the cel-shaded-esque character models in particular. Music... meh, don't really care for Final Fantasy that much, but it fit the scene pretty well.

The fighting choreography was well planned out, but there were parts where I personally feel it could have been sped up a notch (a couple of instances where Link runs at Ganondorf could have had a bit cut off to make it seem like he was running faster) but that aside, very well done. Humour gets 0 because it's obviously not a humour-based piece.

Great job.

LeviFolds responds:

no humor in this - only humor is some of the people reviewing it, HAHAHAHA - but not from you - straight up thanks for a decent review

OK

Been a while since I've watched any FF things, so I thought I'd review this one. The FFVI sprites were too blurry, like jpg quality or something and the same for a couple of the backgrounds. The FFIV sprites were good and clear though.

I'm a bit biased style-wise, considering I'd rather watch an FF spoof (FF Hood or something like that) rather than a serious one right now. Same for the music. If you use Blue Laguna for your music, I suggest checking out some of the other game music they have. There's bound to be something you'll find that'll fit just as easily with your scene. People will probably criticize you for using "out of place" music in the movie but in the long run it'll help you stand out a bit.

Dialogue was somewhat stiff at times, such as Locke and Edgar repeating "Let's go find them" or whatever it was. One thing I did like was the Edge/Shadow fight. That was nicely done, no complaints there.

Sorry if I rambled, I do think you have potential. Overall I'll say this wasn't bad.

Good

Nice to see a decent Sonic parody on here (only other good one humour-wise is Knuckles Adventure in my opinion). Didn't like the midi-converted-to-wav music though. I'd suggest finding some actual mp3 music for your future flashes. Try classicgaming's site, Protoman's homepage and Sonic Fan Games HQ for some good audio. Good work though, the animation was very smooth and the choose the game thing was a cool idea.

RupeeClock responds:

Actually Sonic Fan Game HQ uses mainly Midi for their tutorials, I had to use MIDI becuase of its easy availability.

Thanks for the advice.
